JOE'S HAT ......WINNER...HATS Contest, 04/10/21..........Odysseus: "If you don't know your father, how can you know yourself?".
…..
My beloved Dad’s Fedora ❤️
…
Celebrating Unconditional Love............
.
I loved my Dad, Joseph. He was such a funny man, loved dearly by his friends and family. And he looked so 'smart' in his pinched old grey hat. It got tossed around by all of us, and I pay homage here, to him. It is a style now dated, but very film noir back 'then'. He was once accosted in the street in Philadelphia, whilst wearing this hat, and he told us the robber ran off when he said to him: "Do you know who you're talking to?", lol, pure George Raft !! He adored me. He loved me unconditionally, to my everlasting gratitude. He inspired my talents at the violin and piano. He played the violin beautifully. His favorite music was the Warsaw Concerto, and Thais. . One never forgets, does one ! He was devoted, finally, after much dysfunction, to my Mother, Ida.especially when she was dying. All bad memories seemed erased in the face of her mortality. The last I saw her, Joe told me she would hold his hand, and sneak her finger up under his shirt cuff.......so close, without a word. The last I saw him, was in NYC 1973, when he was finally put into 'care' (not), but at his great age then, he adjusted, and waited for the inevitable. While there, we talked incessantly, feverishly holding on to the moments, both knowing it was the last time together. My brothers and wife,of one, stood in awe: why? Because for all the times they visited him, he never spoke, and then they saw him with me, deeply conversing, and they knew, as did I, that we two were
special, different, connected so deeply, the outside world didn't matter............
To know one's father , really 'know' him, it has to go very deep. ...
.
And to love someone unconditionally, means that... 'nothing else matters' ! Nothing comes between you two, No Matter What!..Cheers, my Joseph..I still love you.

Such a beautiful story VIVA. Im with Marsha, made me tear up too. What a wonderful, special connection you had. I think you are, as they say, your fathers daughter. x Love the charcoal drawing too.
VIVA Anderson replied:

This made me tear up. I had a similar relationship with my father, and have his fishing hat in my studio. He never wore one in daily life, but when fishing or on vacation, always the same beat up straw hat. I love art that finds the nobility of everyday objects, and this is such a beautiful example. l/f
VIVA Anderson replied:
Dearest Marsha, my kindred spirit, I thank YOU especially, for sharing your hat story/Father's hat, and being with me in spirit about Joe's hat. I apprecialy your beautiful compliment SO much! Thank You, :)VIVA🙏
